I wrote the section on education and the zoo. I also wrote some the input on the different links in the map of the zoo. Together we visited the zoo, worked to form the themes of the project, and organize them into a web page.

I feel that the zoo serves a very good purpose. I guess we must look past the cages and realize that many of these animals are in the zoo because they are endangered. The zoo serves a research center for furthering the lives of these animals. It also allows the public to visually perceive animal behavior and physical characteristics. In this way, it educates people and gives them a chance to see animals from all over the world. Yet, I truly feel that if we captivate animals in the controlled environment of the zoo, we have to have a proper habitat for them. Some of the animals in the LA Zoo were in cages that were not very big. They looked like they restricted the animals natural behavior. Overall, I think the zoo is a place where people can enjoy the sites of many different animals. Yet, I don't feel that the zoo is a place where people can fully engage and become one with the natural environment. The zoo represents our habit of separating humanity and wildlife and limiting them to a restricted space.
