I love seeing those Amber Alerts flash on those message boards along the freeways. They make me feel like a detective.
Today for example, there was one looking for a Florida motorhome. I saw that and I was like "NO PROBLEM CALIFORNIA DRIVERS! OFFICER BRETT IS ON THE CASE!"

Looking back on my computing life, I think the only operating system that I've ever purchased was GS/OS 6.0.1. I still have the box, the disks, and even the manuals. That was good times.

If you're running multiple monitors in Windows, you need to install UltraMon. Among other things it
- extends the taskbar onto more than one screen
- stretches your wallpaper to fill as many screens as you'd like
- lets you define screensavers for each display

There's a whole lot of weirdos out there with a whole lot of money. People you'd never even expect! Case in point - Andreas Vollenweider. What the heck could he possibly do with all the cash that 20 years of recording has given him?
Aside from buying a really nice house, nice car, and materials to make more weird instruments, I have no idea what he could possibly be doing with all that money.
ANNOUNCING THE "WHAT IS ANDREAS VOLLENWEIDER DOING WITH ALL THAT MONEY" CONTEST!!!
If you think you know what AW's up to with all that money, let me know in five sentences or less! I'll post all of the submissions I get on Friday! The winner of the most hilarious answer will win a special prize that will arrive in the mail!
One entry per person! (except for Tammy who gets two)
ps- I am listening to an AW CD right now.
pps- Someone did a shopping spree in LA with a credit card that never left my wallet this weekend. :(

By body's achy all over today. I think I'm coming down with something.
You know what would help right now? A back rub. Maybe I can convince my bosses to buy me a massage chair for the office! Like in that one episode of News Radio!

My usual freeway off-ramp was closed this morning, so I had to venture through uncharted ghetto to get to work today.
The highlight of the trip was an old homeless woman bending over and spreading her bare cheeks for me. Well, that's what I thought anyway... It turns out she was just pissing on the sidewalk.
I listened to the Fantasmic soundtrack on the way to work today. That is one great CD.
From October 4 - January 5, 2003, The Disney Gallery will host an exhibit filled with 999 Happy Haunts with original concept Art from Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas" feature film, as well as props from the attraction and film.

Scamp's "Music for TV Dinners" is so freakin' good. I wish they'd release another volume and make it a series!
Laurie Johnson's "Happy Go Lively" (track 2) is pure genius. Listen to that song on your crappiest day and just try not to smile. That's right - it's IMPOSSIBLE! They just don't make music like that anymore.

This Sunday is goth day at Disneyland. If I were the younger freak that I used to be before Tammy whipped me into shape, I would probably find that interesting.

I would say that this test is fairly inaccurate.
You are feeling exhausted, worn out, drained. You feel that far too much is being asked of you but you still want to overcome these difficulties and establish yourself despite the effect such an effort seems to have on you. You are a proud person, assertive most of the time, but at this particular moment you are acting as if you have become resigned to the situation. What you need is some tender loving care - a gentle pat on the head (or maybe a 'kick-up-the backside') and then you'll be raring to go.
You are full of stress at this time. It would seem that you are having more than your fair share of trials and tribulations and you are looking for a way out. You are not quite sure which way to go but the advice is - 'Stop trying so hard'.

Some web site operators seem to think they've got some sort of legal right to control who can and cannot link to them. Dontlink.com lists them all for your click-through pleasure.

Winamp 3 is great, but if you play an mp3 over a network and that connection is either slow or temporarily cut off, it'll lock up your whole goddamn computer.

"An extremely reliable source says that plans are in the works for an after-hours, hard ticket Halloween event at Disneyland. Basically, it would include a screening of Tim Burtons Nightmare Before Christmas at the Fantasyland Theater, and costumes WOULD be allowed."

I'll send you two DreamHost.com license plate frames at no cost! The only condition is that you actually have to put them on a car! (Doesn't have to be yours!)

One of Harlan Ellison's Star Trek episodes, "City on the Edge of Forever," is widely regarded as the 'best' classic Trek episode among rennaisance fairgoers and role playing gamers alike.
I just watched it for the millionth time tonight, and I just can't see it. It feels like a regular episode. Nothing too extraordinary.
My favorite original episode of Star Trek will always be The Changeling. I'm not sure why I like it so much. I think it's because it involves a child-size space probe that floats around the ship spouting winning lines like "I am Nomad." and "I am programmed to destroy those lifeforms which are imperfect."
You can find some of these audio clips at this site prefaced by "Nomad:"

More photos of Flik's Fun Fair are now available. These are mostly shots of the attractions, some of which are already working, some are in testing, and some which are still under construction.
Say what you will about the 80s, but you just couldn't beat the music. If you exclude all of the easy listening power ballads and the crap from the big hair rock bands, you'll find plenty of great music from back in the day!
Bands like the Thompson Twins, The Cure, Big Country, and Men at Work defined the generation! Even one-hit wonders like Dexy's Midnight Runners, Peter Schilling, and Tommy Tutone did their part to make the 80s the most memorable decade for the new-wave 'non-rock' sound.
It is 80s dance party today at my desk!!! Electric Boogaloo!

XM Radio has finally been hacked, and the way they did it was absolute genius.
edit: I actually don't know if the original method even worked, so it has been deleted.
Ever since I posted this log entry I've had a few people emailing me asking how to perform the hack on XM radio. Sorry, I just don't know any of the details that would make it possible.
If you're coming here thanks to a Google search, you've come to the wrong place. I've never even seen a satellite radio outside of Best Buy, so it's not like I'm some kind of expert. Leave me alone, folks!

Today is such a beautiful day. I know exactly where I want to be right now! I want to be eating lunch at the Fatburger on the corner of PCH and PV Drive in Redondo Beach.
In real life I am at the office in Huntington Park sitting at my desk eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

The Apple IIgs was my first computer. I spent more hours of my life in front of that thing that I can remember.
The Apple IIgs Gaming Memory Fairway brought a tear to my eye. I can't believe that someone has taken the time to put together such an excellent and well-maintained collection of disk images. Absolutely beautiful.
I just wish there was a better GS emulator for Windows than XGS (which hasn't seen an update in more than two years.)

Tammy's birthday was Sunday, but we had a wedding to go to then, so we celebrated on Saturday.
We went to Disneyland and I secretly signed us up for a new birthday party package. Pat E. Cake came out and gave us each birthday cakes to decorate and eat and stuff. There was a conga line, confetti, and other fun things. The party was capped off with a visit from Mickey and Minnie who then posed for photos.
Tammy never saw it coming! Ha-ha!
Sunday we drove out to Oxnard to see my friend Shaun get married. I've known Shaun since the second grade. Cuh-razy.
