As of March 3rd, the cost for a Tivo lifetime subscription will jump from $249 to $299. When I paid for mine, it was just $199. I gotta say, that sucks ass.

If you were considering buying a Tivo, now would be a good time!

HEY! I just found out that TV Land plays MacGyver episodes EVERY DAY! I just hooked myself up with a season pass and now I'm ROCKIN'! If you're Tivo-less, it's on at midnight. I grew up with that show.

Our freaking cleaning ladies knocked the power cord out of my Tivo last Friday, so Farscape never got recorded. How shitty is that?

Corky the cat slept on my stomach last night, so now today my back is sore.

On an unrelated note, the new Matrix trailer is just amazing.

I think I got my webcam working again. It was freezing up after running for a day or two before and my images would get corrupted and stuff. I just updated the software this afternoon, and it seems to be working for now...

Check me out! Click the webcam link at the bottom of the page.

I have problems.

Last night I had a dream that Tammy and I were back at the NAMM show and I bought a banjo. I was out of control and I bought the most expensive one I could find, which was about $600.

Then I had serious buyer's remorse because $600 for a musical instrument that isn't a piano is insanity, and I don't have that kind of money!

I could play that thing like a champ though. At first Tammy was mad at me for spending so much money, but then once I impressed her with my mad banjo skillz she was all like "Wow! You're a pro, Babe! That was awesome!" That made me feel good, but I still had a lump in my stomach from spending so much money on something so frivilous.

Well the first two of the remaining 11 episodes of Farscape haven't done very well in the ratings, so the case for saving the show isn't looking too good right now.

The cover of the February 3rd Variety will look like this though!

This morning on the way to work I stopped at Blockbuster to drop off the movies. As soon as I dropped the movies down the slot, this lady popped out of her car and said "Hello, would you like a brochure?" I was expecting a sales flyer for a local business, but then she adds "About stem cell research?" And I laughed at her because I wasn't expecting such a big thing. I said "Sure! Why not?"

It turns out the brochure was from the Jehovah's Witnesses. I was lucky to get away with just a brochure and not a 30 minute lecture. Those people are nuts!

I took it, got back in my car and drove away.

She got back in her car to wait for the next person to come drop off a video. What a biyatch! She was totally staking out that location all morning, like a lion ready to pounce on unsuspecting godless movie lovers.

Man what a busy couple of days I've had!

Last week I spent two days at our datacenter, getting racks ready and laying cable for maybe 100 machines that we're moving over from one of our old datacenters. It's tiring work, and the drive out of downtown LA adds like 45 minutes to my hour-long commute.

Friday night Tammy and I went with Stacy and Steve to the '03 NAMM concert, which this year turned out to be a tribute concert for Elton John. There were a lot of big names there. People like Norah Jones, Ray Charles, and Diana Krall all played versions of their favorite Elton John songs. Bruce Hornsby did the best job I think. Then EJ himself came out at the end and played a 30 minute set. I tell ya, Elton John may write some lame songs, but he can play a piano like nobody's business.

I'm not an Elton John fan so I only recognized four or five songs all night, but the tickets were free and it was cool to see all those famous people.

I was really tired by the end though, and I kept trying not to fall asleep during Elton John's performance. I'm pretty sure that if I had "Elton John sang me to sleep" on my permanent record, I'd be instantly gay.

Saturday Tammy and I went over to Disneyland to renew our annual passes. We ran over to DCA right after that to see if we could catch the last Aladdin show for the day, but we were too late. By that point we were pretty hungry, so we moseyed on over to the Pacific Wharf Cafe to grab dinner. We stuffed ourselves and then decided to head home and rent some movies. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Super Troopers turned out to be two truly boring films.

Sunday we stopped by the NAMM show at the Anaheim Convention Center to meet with Tammy's trade show contractor to see the work he did for Roland's booth, the largest at NAMM. We got to walk backstage to see the storage and eating areas, which was kind of neat. Whenever I'm at trade shows I always wonder what they keep back there, and now I know that there are lots of boxes, break areas, and private offices. Not too exciting!

After NAMM we rushed down to Carlsbad to catch Tammy's grandfather as he finished the San Diego Marathon. We were a little late though, so we met him at his friend's condo afterward instead.

On the way back home we stopped for a late lunch in Dana Point at a little taco stand off of PCH. I had a carne asada burrito that was only like $2.50, and it was freakin' delicious.

Today Tammy has to work, but I have the day off. Ha-hoo! I've been playing with the cat and we took a nap together. I tried to play Super Mario Sunshine, but I'm at the point where the only areas that I can play are super hard ones. I'm beginning to get frustrated, and now I want to play Zelda.

I love the way money smells. (Dr. Evil pinkie raise)

No matter how old and worn out a dollar bill is, it always smells the same as every other dollar bill.

I also love the way gasoline smells, although not as much as I used to when I was a kid.

Well it looks like my primary source for LA traffic information, ocnow.com, is no more. It has been bought out by Cox, and the traffic maps are now gone.

All is not lost, though. I stumbled upon the LA traffic map at sigalert.com and now I'm happy! It's just as comprehensive as the ocnow map, but it's bigger and easier to read!

I have saved myself countless hours in commuting time by checking these maps in the morning before I leave for work at at night before I leave for home. Without them, I'm not sure what I would do.

I made a country chicken casserole last night. It wasn't particularly flavorful, so I think I probably screwed up the recipe somehow. It sure looked good though!

Have I mentioned how much I hate Adelphia Cable? They shut off our cable a month after we moved in. Granted, we weren't ever a paying customer of theirs, but damn them for keeping records and being efficient! I had to buy antennas for our two TVs, and brother, life is hell without cable. Half of the OTA stations in Los Angeles are in either Chinese or Spanish, and the few english stations that we do get tend to fade in and out with the weather.

I have to wait until I get back to my parents house on Monday to watch the two new Tivod Farscape episodes!

Last night when I was laying in bed I was watching an infomerical for a 8 CD set of 80s hits from Time-Life Music.

The music was great of course, but they showed clips from a ton of music videos. Anyway, that gave me an idea.

Who, in this day and age, is going to pay $120 for 8 CDs of music. Suckas who don't know about the Internet, that's who!

You know what I would buy though? That very same music in a DVD compilation set of music videos.

The 80s had some of the best music videos, ever. I led a deprived childhood (one without cable,) so I didn't get to see any of them when I was a kid. The show last night totally blew my mind. Some of those bands looked totally different than what I had imagined.

If I had money and contacts in the industry, I'd start selling those things toDAY.

Today I decided to start coming in to work an hour earlier. Traffic on the 91 is unpredictable, and for the last two days I've been late! I figure that by leaving an hour earlier I not only give myself a cushion to deal with traffic, but I also get to leave work earlier too! It's a win-win situation!

Tammy's in Las Vegas at CES for the next two weeks, so I'm holding down the fort in Anaheim by myself. I am sad and lonely and I hope she comes back early.

I went food shopping last night and got ingredients for some casseroles I've had my eye on. I also picked up some ice cream because we were out, and I am ICE CREAM MONSTER.

Today Nintendo launched the Game Boy SP.

Photos are here and here.

The front-light and built-in battery are welcome additions, but I don't know about those L and R buttons...

Apple announced a new web browser today too. That's pretty good, because I don't think the Mac has ever really had a good, solid web browser that didn't cost money.

If you pre-order Legend of Zelda: The Wind Walker for your GameCube, you'll also receive GameCube versions of TLZ: Ocarina of Time and TLZ: Ocarina of Time: Master Quest FREE. (Master Quest was only released for the 64DD in Japan!)

Most retailers are participating in the giveaway, but if you don't want to wait in line on the day it's released, Gamestop will hook you up. The two bonus games ship on February 17th, and Wind Walker is due sometime in March.

I've got an Icom R2 and have been eyeing the new R5... Here's a good review of the R5.

Both are great entry-level scanners, but neither can listen to digital or trunked systems, and being in Orange County, that's a priority for me!

I can still window shop though!

I took down the Christmas lights last night. It was a lot easier than putting them up!

I peeked up into my attic the other day. It was 1/dark, 2/small, and 3/scary. I could theoretically wedge myself up in there to crawl around and install an antenna or wiring or whatever like I had planned, but now I don't ever want to go up there for any reason. There's just not enough room and I'm not down with the fiberglass.

Attendance was light in New Orleans Square this year on New Year's Eve...but then again, so was the 'entertainment'.

"Ellis Hall and the Truth" busted out their mildly annoying funksplosion from Tom Sawyer Island just like last year. Unlike last year, however, there was no Fantasmic show, and no special countdown show. The dancers and countdown show from last year were replaced by a guy on a raft with a microphone and some other bored cast members on rafts dressed up with flashing LEDs.

The fireworks were great, but the budget must have been a fraction of what it was in 2001.
