One thing I noticed about Firebird is that it seems like a lot more sites are using favicons!

I guess the full Mozilla just can't handle all of the favicons that it comes across, so it just doesn't display them. But man, Firebird takes it like a champ! Almost every site I visit now has their own little icon next to their URL.

They're not cached, which seems lame, but it's a start!

I've had this persistent cold/cough/congestion for the last two weeks or so. I could see the light at the end of the tunnel last Friday, but suffered a total relapse over the weekend. I think the 3:30 AM bedtime on Monday and the stress of a colicing horse was all it took to push me over the edge.

I took a half-day yesterday for reasons unrelated, and by the time I got home yesterday I could tell my condition was only going from bad to worse.

That's when I realized that my only hope was to take the coward's way out. That's right. I saw a doctor.

Anyway, now I've got some drugs and I'll probably be back in to work either tomorrow or Friday, depending on how fast the Azithromycin kicks in.

In the meantime, I'm really bored. I've depleted my Tivo's collection of pre-recorded programming, I've beat Zelda, and all of my computer games are at the house in Anaheim. It's a rough life, I tell you.

Thanks to Nick who sends along this tip for disabling smooth scrolling in Firebird:

Type about:config into the address bar and go to the general.smoothScroll item. Double click it and put in false for the value.

Well so last night Nutmeg coliced. Tammy noticed something wasn't right when she wwnt to go take care of her last night.

She called me, I drove over to see them, and then we called the on-call vet around midnight. Anyway, we didn't leave the barn until about 3:30 this morning. I'm taking a half day at work today, but I should have taken the whole day. I'm exhausted.

I was really happy to hear that Dumb and Dumber was getting a sequel. That happiness quickly turned to disappointment when I learned that the sequel would actually be a prequel, and none of the original cast could be returning.

The two guys they cast as Harry and Lloyd really do an amazing job of mimicing the real Harry and Lloyd, but come on. The trailer looked decent, but I don't know.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Someday I will be a banjo master.

Buying your first banjo can be confusing, and learning to play it can be hard, particularly since so few people know how to play one. Luckily I stumbled upon BanjoHangout.org, your source for all things banjopic. Some good reading in there!

Ebay actually has a whole banjo category, but the prices there aren't that good. 'The Hangout' suggests not spending less than $250 for a decent model, and that's more than I've got.

The Matrix Reloaded didn't start to get interesting to me until the Oracle showed up.

The whole point of the movie is really explained in Neo's chat with the Architect (also interesting,) but it was kind of a short discussion and it went by pretty fast. Here's the transcript of the chat they had so that you can go back and review.

You remember when all of those other Neos were on the TV screens in the background during their discussion? And how they were all saying different things? Well I thought that those were just projections of all of the conflicting feelings and emotions running through Neo's head. This transcript suggests that those were just recordings of previous Ones. Why they all looked like this One (Neo) eludes me, but that seems to be the case.

Yesterday I made the switch from Mozilla to Firebird. Firebird is kind of like a slimmed-down much faster version of Mozilla and its settings put an emphasis on privacy and security.

It seems okay so far. One thing I hate about Firebird is that it apparently has IE's "smooth scrolling" feature built into it, and there's no way to turn it off. Other than that, it seems pretty zippy and good and all that.

Wow. This nutjob is on a death-fast until he can get an answer from the IRS that cites some specific law that says he is required to pay income tax. I'm pretty sure there is no specific law that says that, but the courts have said there is on many occaisions, and this guy is a whacko anyway.

If Al Lutz is to be believed, Jay Rasulo is Disneyland's savior. His predecessor, the very retail-minded Paul Pressler (who recently left to fill a position at the Gap) was not very big on installing new attractions, or spending the money to maintain existing ones.

Al's latest sarcasm-filled update reveals some newly-leaked plans for Disneyland's 50th birthday coming up in 2005.

Jay sounds like he's got good intentions, but we'll see. I think Cynthia Harriss did as good a job as she could do with the resources she was provided, but Al seems to think she's a flake who doesn't care about much more than pushing merchandising events. I have mixed feelings about that.

Well I did it. After months of flirting with less than two gigs of free space, I finally ordered a bigger hard drive.

My 40 gig drive just wasn't cutting it, and it was beginning to show signs of failure. It's from IBM's infamous 75GXP line, so I'm surprised its lasted this long, to be honest.

Today I ordered a Maxtor 200GB drive with an 8MB buffer. It was $299 at staples.com, but there was a $120 rebate and I had a $50 coupon, so that effectively cut the price in half.

It'll be nice to have some breathing room again. The bulk of my drive right now is full of emulator roms and hard to find Disney park MP3s, so they're not exactly things that I could delete when I needed space and then download again later.

Burning them all to CDs would be great, but that would probably take a few days and more CDs than I'd want to deal with! It's a shame DVD burners and media are still so expensive.

I was concerned that my BIOS wouldn't support drives over 137 GB, as that seems to be a pretty common problem with older (pre-2002) motherboards. Luckily it looks like ASUS came through for me, because they've got a beta BIOS for my CUSL2 hidden away on their Taiwan FTP site! Hooray!

You know those airphones you see in the backs of chairs in front of you on airplanes? Apparently they broadcast unencrypted in the 800 mhz band. Smaller private planes do the same thing on 400 mhz.

It could make for some interesting listening!

Unfortunately the main game is over all too quickly, but replaying the mini-games to break your own recrods is still pretty fun.

For some reason the Edwards theater in Anaheim Hills was showing the Matrix Reloaded yesterday - a day before it's official release - so I cruised on down there to meet Tammy and we caught the 10:30 show.

Pretty good movie - lots of action and a little bit of story thrown in for flavor.

Some things were just creepy and unnecessary, like the whole cake scene or the Neo/Trinity love scene. But for the most part, it was a good sequel that for the most part lived up to the hype for me. Paul Goddard from Farscape (Agent Brown) wasn't in this one though.

Over at AICN, they were less than thrilled with the film and they go into great detail about why. They make some good points!

I just signed us up for package D.

The new online ordering system they're using is really great. In the past, registration for special events was handled over the phone. That meant constant redialing against busy signals, sometimes for hours at a time, only to find out that the event had sold out long before your call had actually made it through. I just printed out my e-ticket (heh) and now we're officially in!

It looks like IGN got their hands on the Metal Gear Solid 3 trailer from this year's E3! Check it out!

I still think the original MGS was better than the second one. In MGS2 almost everything took place inside a bunch of rooms that mostly looked the same. The story was passable, but the dialog was needlessly verbose in a lot of parts. It really slowed things down and made it not as fun to play.

It looks like the third game is based outdoors, at least in part, which gives me hope! And it does look pretty great, but MGS2 had a jaw-dropping trailer too if I remember correctly.

Saturday we spent the day with Tammy's grandmother who's going in for surgery this week.

Sunday Tammy and Stacy went to a bridal expo while I stayed home and pulled some weeds. That night we went to Disneyland in search of the Indiana Jones Pinball Adventure, which we found, but it was in pretty bad shape.

We ate dinner at the House of Blues and the service was pretty bad. Like really bad.

Anyway, I'm really tired and sore today so I don't want to type or be at work or think.

Last night on The Learning Channel I saw a show about hidden treasures.

They had this guy who lives in like Kentucky, and every month for the past few years he's had a 3 1/2 gallon bag of gravel shipped to him from the Spokane Bar sapphire mine in Montana. He dumps it out on a table in his backyard, sifts through it with a magnifying glass and tweezers, and pulls out the sapphires. Then he gets them assayed and throws them in a safe deposit box. Supposedly he has built up quite a nest egg for himself doing this!

Anyway, the show made me want to find out how I could get in on some of that remote-mining action, and I found the site where you can order those bags of gravel! It's $40 for a 1 gallon, and $95 for a 3.5 gallon bag. I'm tempted to go for the 1 gallon, but $40 for a bag of rocks is a tough sell up front.

Oh man, did you see Survivor last night?

Christy Christy Christy. What can I say? You got cocky, and you let Rob think you were indecisive. That was the worst thing you could have possibly done! You should have just stuck with the plan and told him you were going to vote for Jenna or Heidi. Rob still commands a lot of respect from the group, so showing weakness to him just set things in motion and completely changed the dynamics of the vote!

You had a good shot at making it at LEAST to the final four, Christy, and you threw it away! Jenna and Heidi were as good as GONE. What happened?

I just beat Zelda! What a fun game.

But short! Waaay too short! I think they try to make up for it by throwing in all of that extra 'optional' stuff like the treasure maps and whatever. Optional stuff sucks!
